True Beauty
So the saying goes“Beauty in the eye of the beholder.” What is beauty? Beauty can be defined as the quality that gives pleasure to the senses or lifts the mind or spirit.
There is indeed a commonly recognized basis for beauty or aesthetics – the Golden Ratio. First studied by ancient Greek mathematicians, it is a mathematics formula that illustrates the geometric relationship. Not only were mathematicians fascinated by it, but biologists, musicians, artists, historians and architects alike. Many artists and architects have proportioned their works to approximate the golden ratio believing the proportion to be aesthetically pleasing.
The Golden Ratio is also applied in facial beauty. A medical doctor once conducted cross-cultural surveys on beauty and found that all groups had the same perceptions of facial beauty. Through his research, he discovered that beauty is related to the Golden Ratio. Golden Ratio lines are found in the proportions of the chin, teeth/lip line and eye positions of faces recognized for their beauty. It is also found that the human face conforms most closely to the golden ratio when we smile.
However, many advocate that true beauty is much more than physical beauty. Beauty radiates from a healthy body, soul, mind and spirit - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health in aggregate. Qualities of the soul and mind such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control are the substance of true beauty. A lady of noble character, clothed with strength and dignity; speaking with wisdom; bringing good not harm; extending her hands to the poor and needy is beauty beyond description.
In addition to a clear skin reflecting a healthy glow, tidy hair, well maintained body weight and good posture; show compassion and render acts of service to others. Last but not least, wear a smile on the face to complete the beauty statement!
